Today Elmwood came in and gave a presentation on how they work. There was specific emphasis on team building and how within each team strengths are utilised, it was surprising to hear that most of the things you need to know when being a designer a learnt through experience. This was reassuring but also frightening as what we have been taught on this course is just the beginning.
One of the main talking points was time and the lack of it when it comes to designing. They mentioned that there may be months to work on ideas however there are times where only days are concerned. This was when they set us the brief. We were given an hour to brand free range duck eggs from a family run business in Devon.
The main idea came from a play on words, 'happy go lucky' became 'happy go ducky' and from there the group envisioned ducks all over devon doing activities. Since free range was the selling point of the brand we thought it worked quite well.
Time was quickly running out so we decided to focus on how the typography would look. Billy sketched up a very nice script logotype that would work on the front of egg boxes.
