Happy Go Duckie

Elmwood gave us a branding brief to come up with a brand for a Devon family run business selling free range duck eggs. We were given one hour to complete this brief .

We sketched out some rough ideas and came up with the name "happy go ducky". We hypothetically thought of the family being a four which is why there are four dots on the egg. The script type helps reflect the homemade family run aspects of the business.

I then gave Myself 10 minutes to create a digital version of the label. Opting for a script typeface rather than drawing around the drawing was quicker but the result would of been better if the drawing had been incorporated. This shows that time often causes consequences to the design.

Development of the Label

Final idea

Here is the final version and mock up of the design. A simpler colour scheme is used here and the drop shadow from the previous design has been removed. The typeface used here is bubbly and friendly and helps to connote the family run business. The four eggs represent the four members of the family and the colour relates to duck eggs. The actual label only takes up a small amount of the egg box this is to be as eco friendly as possible and the raw packaging helps to further connote aspects of family run business.

Evaluation

This brief was beneficial and made myself and the others in the group realise that a lot can be produced in an hour of work. I went on to expand this brief but the hard part, the idea generation and concept development was done in under an hour which just goes to show that great ideas don't always need time to come up with. It was also a great taste of how fast the industry works Elmwood set the brief to make us realise the speed in which we will all have to work once we get a job in the industry. The final designs for this project met all the requirements effectively showing a brand with family run connotations as well as freedom and free range whilst maintaining aesthetics thus creating an ethical product that is attractive in its market.
